MY SECRET NICOSIA
Jazz Singer, Jazz Club Owner, Writer
“I prefer small village getaways!”
Sarah Fenwick lives and works in the old town of Nicosia. She is a leading Jazz singer in Cyprus and also runs her own club called Sarah’s Jazz Club. She performs in national and international venues. She is also a passionate journalist on social issues and advocates changes in the health system to help seriously ill patients in Cyprus.
YOUR FAVOURITE BEACH?
White Rocks at Governor’s Beach in Limassol. Peace and tranquillity.
YOUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANT?
I enjoy DOT near Famagusta gate in Old Nicosia, it has plenty of choices for lactose-intolerant people like me. A restaurant which is loved by many in Nicosia.
YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO FOR A COFFEE?
Kxoffee Project in Nicosia is great. They are purists about good coffee and roast all their coffee in-house. It has the vibe of a London coffee shop but in a beautiful, art deco building.
YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE FOR A COCKTAIL?
Sarah’s Jazz Club, of course! It is a dedicated jazz, blues and quality acoustic music performance venue in Old Nicosia, just off the OXI roundabout. We serve great cocktails.
YOUR FAVOURITE CLOTHES SHOP?
I like to design my own clothes, and if not, I shop from Helmi or other Greek designers.
YOUR FAVOURITE WALK?
Anywhere in Old Nicosia, particularly the shopping areas in the back streets, there is much for people to discover.
YOUR PERFECT DAY OFF?
My perfect day would include painting and practicing the piano all day!
YOUR FAVOURITE CHARITY?
The Anti-Cancer Society. They were invaluable offering precious support during my mother’s illness and I’m eternally grateful to them. The society is there to assist patients during difficult times.
YOUR FAVOURITE WINERY?
Ekfraseis Vassiliades in Chandria.
YOUR FAVOURITE SPA?
I go to Nat’s Spa Centre in Nicosia, they do an excellent Thai massage which is helpful since singing uses the back muscles – a lot. Working so hard, it is rare for me to have time off, so I like to make the most of it.
YOUR FAVOURITE WEEKEND AWAY?
I prefer small village getaways. I really enjoyed Casale Panayiotis Spa Hotel in Kalopanayiotis in Troodos, which is a wonderful place to go. They have 41 guest rooms across the village creating a luxury spa resort.
