NEW COVID-19 CHANGES AT ELYSIUM

5-STAR HOTEL IN PAPHOS OFFERS 20% OFF ALL ROOMS & FREE HALF BOARD UPGRADE

EXPERIENCE THE NEW REALITY OF STAYING AT THE ELYSIUM IN 2020

If you are booking a 5-star hotel in Paphos this year, you will need to get used to the new buzzwords that sadly form part of our new vocabulary. Thermal scanner, luggage sanitation, disinfection of room keys or cards, 4-metre distancing rules between umbrellas, and, digital menu are the new words we will use while staying at a Cyprus hotel in 2020. Slowly, but surely, the Tourism industry in Cyprus is reopening to visitors from overseas and domestic tourists. In this new era, what is the reality of a hotel stay in Cyprus, and, how has it changed since pre-COVID-19 times?

One hotel which is leading the way in protecting their guests is the luxurious Elysium Hotel in Paphos. The team at the Elysium is preparing to reopen on the 17th of July, taking many stringent measures to protect the health and well-being of both their guests and staff.

Christos Papamiltiadous, the General Manager of this leading Paphos 5-star hotel, states, “We have taken our time before reopening. We have introduced every single measure we know to protect everyone who enters our hotel. Safety is paramount at the Elysium. Obviously, during my long career in the hospitality industry, we have never experienced such a pandemic before. We have taken all the advice from our expert advisory team and the Cypriot Government, and are ready to welcome guests again”.

The Elysium Hotel in Paphos has been closed since the Cypriot Government introduced a strict Lockdown in Cyprus with curfews and an SMS system where you had to request permission to go out. With these COVID-19 measures, the Island has been very successful in keeping the number of confirmed cases below 1000 and Cyprus is now considered one of the safest countries to visit in 2020.

THE ELYSIUM REOPENS ON 17TH JULY FOR OVERSEAS & LOCAL TOURISM.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #1

Thermal Scanning & Hand Sanitisation on Entry

The new experience at this luxury 5-star hotel in Paphos will start as soon as you enter the hotel. All staff members and newly arrived guests will have their temperature taken at the entrance with a thermal scanner. The hotel has invested in this remote equipment to limit the contact between staff and guests. The camera uses an infrared vision system which is accurate to ascertain if the person has a temperature. At the door, you will also find the obligatory hand sanitiser which will also be placed at various locations throughout the hotel. The carpets at the door and in the hotel’s main areas will also be sprayed with a special disinfectant regularly.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #2

Electronic Check-Ins, Luggage Sanitation & Distancing

At the reception desk, you will be greeted by all front-of-house staff wearing facemasks, and social distancing will apply to restrict guest-to-guest contact. You will also have the option of an electronic check-in. At this stage, your luggage which has travelled through the airports will need to be sanitised before being taken to your room, and you will receive a disinfected room card to keep on your person.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #3

Housekeeping Staff & Hotel Sanitation

When using the lift at the Elysium, you are safe in the knowledge that all lift panels are regularly sanitised by housekeeping staff. As you enter your room, feel content knowing that all housekeeping staff wear gloves and masks while cleaning the rooms thoroughly with professional sanitation products. When you check-in to the Elysium, you are also given the option for whether you would like housekeeping to enter your bedroom or not on a daily basis to clean.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #4

Reservation, Restaurant Sanitation & Digital Menu

Elysium is renowned for the quality of its gastronomic venues, but here you will find significant changes as well. In all the many beautiful restaurants and bars at the Elysium, you will need to have another temperature check before entering any dining space. At each entrance door, you will see a notification displaying the maximum number of people who are allowed into that specific restaurant. Prior reservations will be essential. All staff, both front and back-of-house will be wearing masks and gloves. The opening times for the restaurants will be extended to allow for the social distancing rules of 3 metres between each table indoors and 2 metres outdoors to be applied. If you are in a big party, the maximum number that can sit at a table will be just ten people per table. Between each party, all touchpoints (chairs, tables, etc.) will be thoroughly disinfected.

The new dining experience will start with your selection of food from a digital menu which you will be able to download to your own device using a QR code. All salt/pepper mills, sauce bottles and electronic payment machines will be disinfected after each use. On the table, in contrast to before, the use of table cloths will be avoided and replaced with a disposable option. All buffets will be equipped with a shield.  For non-residents, at the end of your meal, card payments will be encouraged over cash payments as cash is now considered an infection-risk due to the fact it harbours germs.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #5

Kitchen Standards, Fresh Air & PPE

Every diner wants to know that their food is being prepared with all measures in place to protect them. Michael Lipscombe, the Elysium’s Executive Chef who is in charge of a team of 65 in the kitchens, explained to us how the kitchens at the Elysium Hotel are being operated during these times. He stated, “after a complete renovation during the winter months, our commercial kitchens have been designed to maximise all available workspace so that even the chefs can adhere to the 2-metre rule between them. Our new fresh air units bring chilled fresh air into the kitchen space, which means that our chefs will not get too hot and will be able to wear all protective clothing, including masks in the kitchen. We have also identified regular touchpoints throughout the kitchen space, which are all steam cleaned on an hourly basis. These are just a few of the many new practices we are doing behind the scenes to protect our guests and staff”.

ELYSIUM COVID SAFETY #6

Pool Area Sanitation & Outdoor Distancing

The Elysium is renowned for its beautiful pool areas and their beach, which is just in front of the hotel. In these outside spaces, new rules will apply. All sunbeds and umbrellas will be thoroughly disinfected between each guest use. The umbrellas will be positioned at least 4 metres apart, and the 2-metre rule will apply between the sunbeds of guests who are not from the same party. The only exception to physical distancing will be the lifeguards who may need to perform urgent life-saving action in the event of an emergency.

“The health and well-being of everyone will always be centre stage at the Elysium. Our team is very well-prepared and dedicated to upholding the cleanliness of our hotel. My team and I look forward to welcoming guests to the hotel from both Cyprus and overseas very soon. We look forward to seeing you all”. Christos Papamiltiadous, General Manager, Elysium
