Top luxury restaurants in Paphos – Beautifully delicious cocktails, exquisite food, and breathtaking views are all available under one roof at Ouranos Lounge Bar and Restaurant in Paphos. Following the significant multimillion-euro refurbishment of the 5-star Annabelle Hotel, Ouranos was opened on the top floor, as an alternative dining option for their guests and, thankfully, to the residents of Cyprus. Its chic interior design is stunning and its outdoor terrace must offer one of the best sea views in Paphos, which extends all the way down to the harbour. We previously reviewed the Ouranos Afternoon Tea Experience at the Annabelle and absolutely loved it, so we decided to return to try the newly-launched food menu.

While there is an indoor and outdoor seating option, the obvious decision with this excellent weather is to sit outside on the terrace. With the enormous chairs and tables, the terrace is a very comfortable place to enjoy a drink or indeed a meal. It is also the perfect spot for the ultimate sunset view! The new menu appeals to all tastes and has a variety of options and food combinations. It is worth noting here that the restaurant is only open at weekends and, due to its popularity, you need to make a reservation to dine. There were six of us when we visited the hotel after a long week at work on a Friday evening. All of us were looking forward to catching up over a bite to eat and a few cocktails.

Depending on what you fancy, the platters offer an exceptional choice and are designed to be shared. There is a choice of five platters, including, Sea, Earth, Forma, Searth and Green. Four of our party decided to share two platters and went for the Sea and Forma options. The Sea Platter included Chilean-style Seabass Ceviche with lime, Sun-Dried Tuna with roasted almonds, Creole Fish Cake with crushed avocado, and Caramelized Salmon with white miso. This was accompanied by another chosen platter called Forma, which consisted of four fine imported Mature Cheeses served with sweet grape chutney, honey nuts, and an incredible selection of bread. The cheeses were out of this world. Platters can often be a disappointment, but these were beyond expectations and offered generous portions with a perfect combination of flavours. To mention, the Green platter is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

The other two friends in our party selected two dishes from the main menu, which also has a small selection of salads. I think all of us were quite envious of the choice of the Lobster Roll. This was served in a homemade brioche roll with wakame salad and a sharp yuzu mayonnaise, and was declared ‘DELICIOUS’. The other main dish was the Zodiac, a trilogy of three different burgers; Softshell Crab Tempura Burger served with salsa, Korean Kimchi Black Angus Beef Burger, and a Curried Chickpea Burger served with avocado, baby spinach and yoghurt. This is a unique dining option for the diner who enjoys a burger with various complementing flavours. These were quickly demolished and enjoyed.

There is also a fabulous selection of Sweet Tooth Desserts, which come as a sharing dish with two pieces. Half of us voted for the Puerto Rico Dessert which was a pina colada flavoured macaron served with coconut, fresh lime, and a very dark and tasty rum. The other half went for a dessert called Talking Monkey which was spiced banana spring rolls served with dark chocolate, coffee, and a generous vodka twist. Make sure you leave room for the desserts – they were exceptional and offered many more choices than we mention here.

A review of Ouranos would not be complete without mentioning the fantastic range of drinks on offer from the bar. The selection is second to none and must surely cater to everyone’s favourite tipple. If you are a lover of cocktails, this is the place for you. They have their own Signature range of cocktails plus Classic and Non-Alcoholic alternatives. There are also over eight rum-based cocktails and a selection of five Cypriot cocktails which was lovely to see. If you have a gin lover in your party, you will score highly. With a range of over sixty-two gins, their favourite gin must be on the menu. They range from the usual Gordon’s London Dry Gin to gins such as Williams Elegant 48 Gin (made from 48 rare varieties of apples) and also Monkey 47. The drinks menu also offers an extensive selection of whiskies, vodkas and tequilas.

Ouranos Bar also holds regular entertainment nights with live singing and DJs playing music. It is the place to be for eating and drinking, in style, in Paphos. Mentioning style, they have a stringent dress code of smart casual for dinner. This means – no beachwear, flip flops or shorts. However, tailored shorts and sandals are permitted. If you have a special occasion or just fancy treating yourself, this is the perfect place to go.
