My Secret Paphos with Georgios Pillas of Zone Dance Studio – Cyprus in Style

Georgios Pillas, Professional Dancer & Teacher, ZONE Dance Studio

Places to Visit Paphos – Meet Georgios Pillas, an accredited dancer who grew up and started his dance training in Paphos. At the age of 11, he got a taste for various Folk and Latin dances and continued training here until the age of 18, which is when he relocated to The Netherlands to join the Fontys Dance Academy. As well as expanding his knowledge to include other forms of dance, Georgios’ passion for Latin dancing developed rapidly, leading him to Barcelona, Paris and Brussels, where he participated in various dance workshops and shows. It was not long before he found himself training full time in New York, at Broadway Dance Center, and was awarded the title of Hustle Dance Champion in 2015. He spent 12 years taking part in national dance competitions and campaigns before returning to Cyprus and now runs his very own, Zone Dance Studio.

He has a loyal following of students who attend his classes to learn different types of dance, from Latin to Salsa and much more. Georgios is passionate about what he does and this is clear to anyone who meets him. In this article, we learn about his favourite places to visit, in and around Paphos.

Update – Due to the latest Covid-19 measures, many of the recommended places mentioned in this article may be closed or operating under a different time schedule.

Favourite Beach?

That’s a tricky question since I love going to the beach and also discovering new beaches, but Lara Beach in the Akamas would be my favourite.

Favourite Restaurant?

Since I spent 10 years living in NYC with all the restaurants I could ask for, now, back in my hometown of Paphos, I love heading out for Souvlaki at Vasano Tavern.

Favourite Place for a Coffee?

For good quality coffee, you go to Beanhaus Coffee Roasters!

Favourite Place for a Walk?

I love to walk from the lighthouse in Kato Paphos and just keep on walking!

Favourite Place for a Cocktail?

Suite 48 isa magical place to drink a cocktail, especially in the summer! It is one of those places where you can really relax, surrounded by gorgeous greenery and a never-ending panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Favourite Day Off?

My perfect day off is with family and good friends! I love heading out for road trips across Cyprus and discovering new places. It feels good to travel around and immerse yourself in the island’s culture and traditions. Some of my favourite places to visit are abandoned villages, as I always leave feeling more grounded.

Favourite Winery?

Tsangarides Winery, in Lemona Village, which is also next to my village, Choulou.

Favourite Spa?

The beach, of course. Why use a Spa when you have nature on your doorstep!?

Favourite Weekend Away?

I enjoy driving around the local villages and soaking in the culture. I also enjoy attending and taking part in events such as the ones at Chakra Art Gallery.
