In this article, we spoke to Steph Friend, a wedding planner who works for one of the most recommended Cyprus wedding planning companies. Our aim was to find out what would be a typical day in the life of a Cyprus wedding planner. Steph is originally from Kent, in the UK, and fell in love with Cyprus after visiting for a holiday. She originally planned to stay for a year but has been here ever since. Today, Steph lives in Peyia, near Coral Bay, and works for the wedding planning team, Marry Me Cyprus. Having planned so many weddings for couples getting married on the Island, Steph knows everything there is to know about getting married in Cyprus. Here, she shares her top wedding planning tips and gives us the inside track for your wedding day.
Have you always worked as a wedding planner?
I have several years of wedding planning experience in Cyprus. When I first came to the Island, I worked for a couple of years with another wedding planning company, but then decided to join the Marry Me Cyprus team. Working with the back-up of such a large wedding company, and having the best selection of wedding styling items to work with, is a dream come true.
What is the best part of your job as a Cyprus wedding planner?
Without a doubt, the best part of my job is working with my colleagues in the wedding planning team, to make our couple’s dreams come true. There is always so much positive energy involved on a daily basis. We all have the same focus, and that is to ensure we offer the best service possible, by delivering the most amazing wedding day. Coming to work doesn’t feel like work. I know when I wake up, it’s going to be an enjoyable day, spent with friends.
What do you consider to be the latest, trending wedding themes?
That is a hard question to answer, as unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we haven’t seen many weddings go ahead this year. However, from research, it is apparent that the current trend is leaning towards the use of Pampas Grass, and styling weddings in Bohemian and Macrame themes. The other popular wedding theme we have seen come to the fore, is the Geometric Wedding design. We believe that the times of today are being reflected in the new wedding themes, and so brides want a simpler and trendier look.
How is it, working with all the wedding décor and styling items at Marry Me Cyprus?
We have to keep on top of our game, ensuring that we are up to date with all the latest wedding trends, and updating our stock, all the time. Our Cyprus wedding décor brochure is over 350 pages long, and it will forever continue to grow, I am sure. We have the largest selection of wedding décor items available on the Island.
With your years of wedding planning experience, what is your best advice for couples looking to plan the ultimate destination wedding in Cyprus?
The day goes by so quickly, and everything is so overwhelming. Blink, and you will miss it. After several years of hard work, and all the planning that goes into the day, it is over in a flash. I always recommend to my brides that, at some point, during the evening, just stand back and take ten minutes, as a couple, to watch, breathe, and take it all in. Also, during the wedding ceremony, forget everyone else. This is the time when your only focus should be on each other.
What is a typical wedding day like for you?
I would say, manic yet enjoyable. Also, I get a real sense of achievement when everything goes perfectly to plan. I always wake up early, feeling fresh and ready for the day ahead. There is always a feeling of excitement that makes you think, after all the planning and hard work that has been invested into our couples, today is the actual day! You want it to be beyond their dreams.
My day will always start by reconfirming everything with all the wedding suppliers. Then, it is into the office to check all the requested wedding décor items, and to confirm that everyone on the team knows their role for the day. Following this, I head off to see the bride and groom, with Prosecco and gifts, and to calm any nerves. At this point, we always cover the running order of the day with the main party members, so everyone is aware of what they have to do. I always check that the dressing team schedule is running on time, so that we have no unexpected delays. Then, it really is up to me to deliver the full day, according to the timeline.
I never relax until the bride and groom have had their first dance. It is then that I can take a break, knowing we have delivered the perfect day. I can always tell as the bride will have the biggest smile on her face, which is what we always want to see. Then I can go home and rest, well, get ready for the next day. I have to say that I absolutely love my job planning weddings in Cyprus.
