A WINE TASTING IN CYPRUS OF EIGHT WINES FOR CHRISTMAS, FOLLOWED BY A 3-COURSE-MEAL AT THE LODGE.

Wine TastingCyprus in Style Wine Network is pleased to present our next MONTHLY wine event, at the award-winning ‘The Lodge’in Paphos. This event will include a wine presentation by leading wine expert and communicator, George Kassianos, followed by a 3-course gourmet lunch or dinner, depending on the date you book. Wine and food have always been a winning combination throughout history, and we are delighted to be able to continue this tradition. The menu has been prepared by the executive chef and owner at The Lodge, Peter Van Rijn. Join our Christmas Celebration Wine Event – in style!

CHRISTMAS GOURMET 3-COURSE MEAL WITH A WINE TASTING

  • 8th December: Lunch at 1 pm
  • 15th December: Dinner at 6.30 pm (Subject to COVID-19 Government legislation)

Cypriot vs International Wines – With Christmas on the horizon, George will present his recommended wines for the Christmas Table. A total of eight wines will be tasted throughout the presentation. Two to match a Seafood Platter, two for a Turkey, two for Gammon, and two for traditional Christmas pudding. It will be a blind tasting of four indigenous Cypriot varieties with comparable wines from overseas. During the class, we will have to decide, out of the two, which is which and answer in writing. There will be a prize for the overall winner!

PRESENTED BY PROFESSIONAL SOMMELIER & WINE EXPERT, GEORGE KASSIANOS.

After a lifelong career in hospitality, George currently writes on wine for several publications here in Cyprus. Notably, he writes the wine column in the Sunday Cyprus Mail and also writes regular articles for Cyprus in Style Magazine. He is also the President of the Cyprus Sommeliers Association, which is hosting the European and North African Sommelier of the Year Competition in November 2021.

3-COURSE MEAL COOKED BY EXECUTIVE CHEF, PETER VAN RIJN

Leading Chef, Peter van Rijn, owns The Lodge in Paphos, with his Cypriot wife, Anastasia. The Lodge was awarded the prestigious accolade of a “Top Notch” Award at Cyprus’ first Toques d’Or awards ceremony in 2019. Peter’s love for food started, at a very young age, in his homeland of South Africa. From the early “Family Braais”, he loved the way everybody got involved in the preparation and cooking of the meal. It was at this time, he developed a “quiet obsession with cooking the perfect steak”.

Peter and Anastasia opened The Lodge in 2011, and, since then, the restaurant has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the illustrious Toques d’Or Award. Their mission, at The Lodge, is to represent the myriad of cultures, which have influenced South African culinary history. The foundation of their menu is a wonderful collection of sauces on offer, called L’Afrique du Sauce. WHAT’S ON THE MENU FOR THIS EVENT?

Canapés will be served during the presentation, and then a 3-course lunch or dinner will be enjoyed, which has been specially selected by the Executive Chef Peter van Rijn. A Vegetarian Menu is also available, please contact us for details.

The Wines will be tasted with the following Canapés, all served with Pickles and Grilled Cherry Tomatoes.

  • Pap & Chakalaka Crudites
  • Fried Veg Crisps with Dips

After the Blind Tasting, a 3-Course Lunch or Dinner will be served, depending on which date you book.

  • STARTERPork Loin Riblets, sautéed in ‘The Lodge Rib Glaze’.
  • THE MAIN – Lourenco Marques – Sous Vide Half Chicken, flame-grilled on the Braai with Tiger Prawns, Piri-Piri and Garlic Lemon Butter Sauce, on the side, and served with Herb Mashed Potatoes.
  • DESSERTMalva Pudding with a fragrant Crème Afrique, served with two dessert wines.

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

Of course, all current protective hygiene measures will be applied at this event. We strongly feel that they are for the benefit of everyone. In addition to reducing the numbers, we ask:

  1. All guests to sanitise hands on arrival.
  2. If you leave the table, your mask must be worn.
  3. Maximum tables of 6.
  4. Socially-distanced tables for the same party, if requested when booking.

Please advise your personal preference for seating when booking – socially distanced or group table.

HOW TO BOOK FOR 8TH & 15th DECEMBER

Booking is essential. There are very limited numbers due to social distancing. The price is 40 euros per person, including the wine for the presentation and the 3-course lunch/dinner.
