OUTDOOR FURNITURE FABRIC TRENDS 2021
DESIGN THE ULTIMATE OUTDOOR OASIS THIS SUMMER
Finally, spring has arrived, after what has seemed to be an endless winter. Now that we are seeing the days and nights warming up, it is time to start thinking about our outdoor areas. With all of us spending more time at home in 2021 than ever before, we want to create an outdoor oasis, where we can sit and relax and enjoy entertaining friends throughout the coming months.
In Cyprus, with our guaranteed hot weather arriving soon, we will all be using our exterior spaces more than ever, so it is essential to take our time and invest in the right look. It is an area that can sometimes be forgotten when we work on our properties.
We spoke to the design team at Ampersand Interiors to learn from the experts about how to create our own ‘designer’ outdoor paradise. They have already been very busy taking orders to recover outdoor cushions and, in some cases, replacing the inner foam as well. When redesigning an outdoor space, there should be little difference in the considerations we need to think about when recreating a traditional interior design. The same rules apply in creating that perfect look.
6 RULES FOR OUTDOOR DESIGN AND FURNITURE:
CONSIDER YOUR EXISTING FURNITURE COLOUR SCHEME
When selecting your colours for an outdoor space, choose complementary ones, which might go with a neutral cream, as you may already have an umbrella or other furniture in this colour.
INTRODUCE A UNIQUE STYLE WITH PATTERNED CUSHIONS
Use contrasting patterns in your fabric selections for cushions. Traditionally, outdoor furniture has always come with cream or grey colours, but there is no reason to stick to these colourways. Mix and match plain with highly patterned, to create interest and style.
INTEGRATE THE NATURAL SURROUNDINGS INTO YOUR THEME
If your main outdoor space is just beyond your French windows, consider any dominant outside features such as a big blue pool or sea view. Correspond the colour and follow the theme through for continuity. If your garden is a riot of floral colour, it might be better to stick with just one colour for your outdoor scheme or use a more neutral colour scheme such as warm beiges and greys. You can still make it look stylish by using patterned fabrics.
ADD THE WOW FACTOR WITH CURTAINS ON YOUR TERRACE OR PERGOLA
If you really want to create the wow factor, Ampersand Interiors advises using outdoor fabrics for curtains. If you have a pergola, an arched terrace or a balcony, why not add curtains to make it extra stylish this summer and keep the sun out on a hot day. They can also give extra privacy from any neighbours.
AVOID DARK COLOURS TO ENSURE LONGEVITY IN YOUR DESIGN
Avoid solid dark colours such as black, as this will be more prone to fade over the years. Also, a dark colour is more likely to show perspiration marks on the fabric after a hot day!
ONLY CHOOSE FABRICS LABELLED FOR OUTSIDE USE
The most significant and vital rule is to make sure that the fabrics you choose are durable and fade-resistant. You need to consider resistance to stains, water, UV rays and other outside elements. Only use fabrics which are labelled for outdoor use, as these will stay brighter and cleaner for longer. Whilst they might cost a little more, they come with a guarantee and will last a lot longer than just one season. At Ampersand Interiors, their outdoor cushion fabric collection has increased considerably over the last two years and offers the latest designs. All their outdoor fabrics have fade-resistant qualities, and most are water-resistant and come with warranties.
TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR OUTSIDE SPACE AND FURNITURE
Why not take a photo of your outdoor space including the furniture, and pop into Ampersand to discuss the various options. All the team have years of interior design experience and would be delighted to advise you on the perfect outdoor scheme for your home this summer. They will always take into consideration your own personal style and budget.
Ampersand Interiors now has several sample books with high-quality outdoor specialist fabrics in many designs and prints. They have bold colours, often with matching patterned options to coordinate a well-thought-out look. Putting these fabrics together commands professional skills. The Ampersand team are always happy to advise on how to mix and match different fabrics for a garden, terrace or balcony. This, in turn, will transform your summer living.
