RESTAURANT REVIEW LIMASSOL
COMO-OSTERIA ITALIAN restaurant
BY ANNA-MARIA ATHANASIOU
Restaurant Review Limassol – There is no better place to enjoy an evening dinner while watching the sun set by the sea in Limassol, than one of my favourite restaurants called Como Osteria and Italian Restaurant, or Como as we call it. It is an ideal location for a brunch, lunch, casual drinks or dinner. Ideally located at the twin towers, Olympic Residence, it is easy to find. It prides itself on serving excellent food, from a menu that changes seasonally, taking full advantage of our local produce. The cuisine is predominantly Italian, with freshly made Pasta, Pizzas, Focaccia and Salads, and an abundance of traditional Italian fare.
We’ve often eaten at Como and enjoyed many lunches and dinners with friends and family. The evening we chose to go, was Friday, which, luckily for us, had live music, as an added bonus! The menu has a varied selection for anyone who wants the whole Italian experience or for anyone who wants to eat light. We opted to go halfway! While we perused the menu, we were served with hot Focaccia and Dips, and to be honest, I could have easily feasted on just those! But I was determined not to miss out on dessert this time!
So, we chose two salads for starters; the fresh Insalata Toscana, which paired zesty orange, red grapefruit, creamy avocado and pomegranate, and the Prosciutto, Strawberry and Goats Cheese Salad. The portions were large and enough for the four of us to share, along with some more Focaccia!
For our main dishes, my guests decided on the Grilled Chicken and Vegetables, the Pork Chop (huge!) and the Sea Bass. I also opted for the Sea Bass and enjoyed a Mushroom Risotto as an accompaniment because I just couldn’t decide. The Lobster Ravioli also tempted me! The food was presented artfully on large rustic plates which added to the whole Italian feel of the evening. Each of the dishes was tasty and hearty enough to fill anyone with a very big appetite. I couldn’t finish my risotto, which was a shame, as it was so flavourful, but I was saving what little space I had left, for dessert.
I’ve worked my way through the dessert menu during previous visits, mainly choosing my staple Apple Crumble or a Strawberry Waffle (absolutely delicious). Still, this time I let my guests choose. They opted for the profiteroles and chocolate brownie for us to share. Again, the presentation was beautiful, and though we were all full, we somehow managed to finish off both large portions.
Insalata Toscana – Spinach, avocado, orange and red grapefruit segments, rucola, roasted pine nuts, pomegranate with honey mustard balsamic vinaigrette.
Lobster Ravioli – Homemade lobster ravioli served in a Pink Vodka Sauce with tomato and fresh cream.
Filleto Di Maiale/ Pork Fillet – Pork fillet seared and topped with a red wine sauce.
THE WINE LIST & COCKTAILS
Como Osteria has a varied choice of local and notable wines from Greece, France and Italy, as well as wine by the glass and top-shelf Champagnes, for that extra special occasion. I chose a light rosé by the glass, as the rest of my guests were not drinking. There is a large selection of beers and cocktails, and for the non-drinkers, some refreshing smoothies.
Como Osteria is true to the tradition of its name; a casual, warm eatery, where the staff are welcoming and the rich aromas of Mediterranean dishes pique all of your senses. It is an ideal location all year round, with the Limassol coastline as a backdrop. There are plenty of delicious dishes to try, and the staff are happy to accommodate your every need, as well as give you recommendations. I will definitely be back soon to indulge in that scrumptious warm Focaccia and try the Lobster Ravioli…and maybe order the Strawberry Waffle too!
