Wine Event PaphosIf so, why not join George Kassianos and friends at our next Wine Event, which will be held at the Mediterranean restaurant, Olivetio, in Paphos. It will start with a class hosted by George, featuring two of the latest grape varieties in Cyprus – The Queen and Prince of Cypriot Wine – Vasilissa and Yiannoudi.  This is a unique opportunity to try these new and rare varieties. We will taste 7 wines in total (3 white & 4 red) from some of the leading wineries in Cyprus, including Zambartas, Makarounas, Vasilikon, Fikardos, Vouni Panayia and Tsangarides. Canapés will be served during the tasting.

This wine class is suitable for the beginner or more experienced wine connoisseur. We aim to have fun, enjoy the wine and learn together, all whilst enjoying a gourmet Cypriot-influenced 5-course dinner.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

PRAWNS SAGANAKI

Baked in the oven with a Tomato and Feta Cheese Sauce, flamed with Ouzo.

VILLAGE HALLOUMI

Grilled and flavoured with Honey and Sesame Seeds.

BABY CALAMARI

Deep-fried served with Lemon Wedges.

LAMB SHANK

Marinated with Herbs and slow-cooked in the oven for 5 hours, served with Potato Purée and Gravy.

Or, for the non-meat eaters

SEABASS FILLET ON THE GRILL

Drizzled with Vinaigrette with Garlic, Lemon, Herbs, Ginger and Bell Peppers, served with Potato Purée.

Olivetio House Speciality. A delicate, creamy dessert with Crunchy Caramel.

Please note that a full and exciting vegan menu is available, and there are alternatives if you are allergic to any of the set menu courses, such as shellfish.

ABOUT OLIVETIO RESTAURANT

Olivetio is an elegant and contemporary culinary space on the Tomb of the Kings Road in Paphos. It offers an alternative slant on Mediterranean cuisine, using the very finest of ingredients. The restaurant is owned by Jannette Othonos, who, together with her Head Chef, is passionate about the food and delivering customer satisfaction. Many of their ingredients are homegrown to create a delicious blend of classic Cypriot recipes with a modern twist. In addition to their traditional dishes, they have Prime Quality Steaks, Tasty Homemade Pasta, Salads, Tapas Meze, Meat and Seafood Platters. They have become quite famous for their House Specialities of Lamb Shank and Venison in a very short space of time. Olivetio also has a great selection of vegetarian dishes, homemade desserts, and an extensive wine list.

  • UNDER REGULATIONS: We are holding the event over two nights, so that numbers are kept to a minimum. All Ministry of Health regulations will be in place and always adhered to. Therefore, we have very limited availability.

ABOUT GEORGE KASSIANOS

George Kassianos is the President of the Cyprus Sommeliers Association. He has also recently been appointed to be the Contest and General Assembly Liaison Officer, by the International Sommeliers Association (ASI), which takes him all over the world to attend international wine events and competitions. He writes for many publications, including Cyprus in Style Magazine and the weekly wine column of the Sunday Cyprus Mail. He is a wine and hotel educator and presenter who holds regular wine events across Cyprus.
